Pre-Sale Questions (Dedicated)
Hi.
I was looking at the W3520 - i7 machine and I have a couple of queries...
1. We currently have a hosted server with you guys, would we be able to keep the same IP and transfer all the server files easily, and would there be much downtime? And would our web hosting remain the same?
2. What is the difference between Premium and InterNAP? The Seattle and Los Angeles locations are the same price but on your hosted game servers the Premium is more expensive.
3. The 'better' dedicated server (Dual E5540) says 'Extreme Performance for many servers'. Could you tell me how many, many actually is? 5? 10?
4. We are looking to have rougly 5 servers with slots of 64, 40, 20, 32, 32 = 188 slots in total. Would there be much of a performance hit? And is there a way to monitor the performance?
Thanks for your time.

Transferring the IP should not be a problem as long as you choose the same location: http://www.nfoservers.com/forums/viewto ... =48&t=3898. On the files, I'd generally recommend that you set up the new server stock, then download the changes you made to the original server through its FTP (configuration files, addons, etc) and apply them to the new server, to save time.Viper. wrote:1. The downtime associated with the IP changeover would be short and well-coordinated through email.
Premium bandwidth is InterNAP bandwidth plus additional manual tweaking and a mix of transit/peering from other providers, with the (achieved) goal of strictly higher performance. We talk more about this here: https://www.nfoservers.com/networklocations.php2. What is the difference between Premium and InterNAP? The Seattle and Los Angeles locations are the same price but on your hosted game servers the Premium is more expensive.
At an absolute minimum, with the "Extreme" configuration, I'd say you could run 8 servers (one per "true" core) and most likely 16+ (one per logical/hyperthread core). The number of servers a machine can support varies widely depending on the configurations and types of the servers. On the dedicated server order page, we give an estimate of the total connected clients (those actively playing) that we think each machine could support under common scenarios.3. If these are normal CS:S servers, or something similar, I don't think they would be a problem under the standard configuration -- your main limitation would likely end up being the bandwidth used, so you'll want to monitor that through the control panel and adjust rates as necessary over time.4. CPU and memory usage can easily be monitored through the Windows task manager.

Wow.. thanks for the swift, informative reply. Just one more question to you.
Our current server is hosted in San Jose (InterNAP) - does this mean we won't be able to keep the same IP?Edge100x wrote:Transferring the IP should not be a problem as long as you choose the same location: http://www.nfoservers.com/forums/viewto ... =48&t=3898.

Normally we don't offer dedicated machines in SJ and you'd have to migrate to a different IP at a new location. If you'd rather stay in SJ, please email me at support@nfoservers.com and I'll look into whether we can fit you in there. Our current server is hosted in San Jose (InterNAP) - does this mean we won't be able to keep the same IP?

Re: Pre-Sale Questions (Dedicated)
One thing edge100x did not mention is, webhosting is not included with your Dedicated server. You could buy it separately here: https://www.nfoservers.com/order-webhosting.php and it would be added to your account, but it does not come WITH the Dedicated server.

Re: Pre-Sale Questions (Dedicated)
Ah, true, I meant to address that.
My suggestion would be that you switch your current package into one containing just webhosting, through that page, after the rest of the changeover is complete.

Re: Pre-Sale Questions (Dedicated)
I see. Thanks for that. I'll e-mail you soon because keeping the same IP is pretty much essential.
Thanks.
Thanks.

Sorry. Double post. Final, final question though...
Will we be able to run PsychoStats on a dedicated server?

Re: Pre-Sale Questions (Dedicated)
You can run pretty much anything you'd like, aye. There are installation instructions for PS3 located here: http://www.psychostats.com/doc/PsychoStats_Installation

Re: Pre-Sale Questions (Dedicated)
I wish I could have a dedicated in San Jose but I use too much bandwidth So far im at 2500 gigs, 500 less than August but thats summer for ya. Stay under 2000 and you will be fine, going over is a whole other story.
Re: Pre-Sale Questions (Dedicated)
The W3520 dedicated server configuration comes with 2500 GB: https://www.nfoservers.com/order-dedicated-server.php
Re: Pre-Sale Questions (Dedicated)
How do you find out how much bandwidth you are using?
Re: Pre-Sale Questions (Dedicated)
Here, we provide bandwidth graphs and a readout of the monthly usage (in addition to a history of prior months). Other hosts should provide something similar, but you can also install an application such as Cacti to monitor it yourself.

Re: Pre-Sale Questions (Dedicated)
I would probably go over 2500 at some points.
I use this program which has worked well for me.
