Hello.
I recently got my VPS and was wondering how to install the GUI version of Ubuntu as at the moment it is only command lines and I do not like it. I opened a support ticket and somebody instructed me to take my issue here. Any help is appreciated.
Thanks

Re: How do I install the Ubuntu GUI version on my VPS?
I tried this, but the tightvnc window was purely grey. However, it did seem to be connected, as running shutdown -h now through a command line would terminate the vnc connection as well.

It looks like the official Ubuntu instructions are a bit incomplete/out-of-date. I have updated our KB article now.

Still not working, HOWEVER, I tried the web vnc that nfo provides and that works. It's possible that this is an issue with TightVNC. It's able to recognize the user and computer name when logged in, and the session terminates when I shutdown the vps, but the actual window is grey.
Re: How do I install the Ubuntu GUI version on my VPS?
I have made a correction now that should fix that for you.
The grey window happens when the line in /root/.vnc/xstartup is missing (the one from step #2). It is because the desktop environment needs to be started.
