Re: Server Crashing Thread
Just browsing google, I found numerous posts on EA Forums, and a few other Game Server providers forums with exact same issues. Global issues, and they aren't getting better with updates. Reminding me a lot of the issues I'm having with MW3 right now. John, do you submit some sort of crash details to EA regarding the servers? Or would the posters here be best to post their issues on the EA forums to see if we can get answers or fixes.
Re: Server Crashing Thread
We've sent quite a few crashes to DICE for review and I expect for the major ones to be fixed in R9. All the crashes that I've seen over the last several days have been the same as others that I've previously sent DICE.
Re: Server Crashing Thread
Well my team and I have narrowed down a huge cause for crashing that being bans via Procon, since then we've kept it at just kicks for now and here is my server heath as a result:

I ban constantly from Procon and have never crashed.

Re: Server Crashing Thread
John, I don't understand... Why is my server up and full (64 players) for 60 hours straight one day and each subsequent days it crashes every 2 hours for almost 2 weeks now? There hasn't even been a different server update in between that time so that is not the case. Is a change in the EA backend possibly screwing with our servers?
Re: Server Crashing Thread
We're doing the same, and we run almost all day until it hits the evening and then the server just loses players..=QUACK=.Major.Pain wrote:Just to add to this, we have a 32 slot server rotating all maps, and rotating from 1 round conquest, 2 rounds rush, etc. No crashes ever. I think the 32 slots makes a big difference. We have been using Procon since day one and not the control panel here for admining, but they should be using the same commands.
Re: Server Crashing Thread
TimSad, unless someone is targeting you, it's mainly the luck of the draw.
Re: Server Crashing Thread
Lucky you, but hate to say this is reproducible. It is caused by Procon and banning, but to what capacity we're still researching it..=QUACK=.Major.Pain wrote:I ban constantly from Procon and have never crashed.

Re: Server Crashing Thread
Just did a ban now and worked fine.
Might be related to 64 slot server.

Right, so you guys are only 32 then? Good info Pain, thanks for checking it out. I'm adding another 64 player server soon for Karkand and I have a 16 player private as well..=QUACK=.Major.Pain wrote:Just did a ban now and worked fine.

servers keep crashing wirh R9
Re: Server Crashing Thread
DICE got back to me on the ban-related crashes. Apparently a crash occurs when there's a very long banlist (>16 KB) and "banList.list" is executed. The server tries to send the entire list at once but an internal overflow occurs when it can't fit all of the entries into a single rcon packet.
The only workaround for this right now is to reduce the size of the banlist.

Re: Server Crashing Thread
John, Does that apply to the banlist.txt only or to pbbans.dat also ?
If it only aplies to the banlist.txt file, be sure to issue bans by PB Guid and they will be saved to the pbbans.dat file.

Re: Server Crashing Thread
That applies to the banlist.txt file. It could also apply to viewing PB bans, depending on how PB displays them when they are listed, but I suspect that using PB is safe.
