Hey NF,

Recently I started renting from another VPS host, their servers are good their price is great. The support team doesn't have a brain cell between the two of them, their reply on average is about 5 words.

My current server specs are as follows:
- 2GB RAM
- 2GB Burst RAM
- 50GB Storage
- 2TB bandwidth
- Central backups
- Ubuntu 11.04 OS
All as follow for an unbelievable price of $7/mo. (Promo offer)

I would like to know what OS you use since I couldn't find anything about what your VPS/VDS use, would it be possible to get anything near those specification and around that price.

I am currently looking for a long term plan of about 8-12 months I may extend the plan later on.

I really hope to switch as the support team makes me want to scream...

If there is anything you feel I have missed out just ask and I will add it in.

I plan to run one server at anyone time so it could be; minecraft, Gmod, TF2.

As I am not expecting you to drop your price to match their $7 since $44 is somewhat way out of what I am willing to pay for a VPS/VDS, another company which I am comparing this one against offered a small dedicated server for $35 (1 Core, 2GB RAM, 1TB storage, 5TB bandwidth).

If you take a special order that would be perfect!
As 1 core, 60GB storage, 1.5TB bandwidth, 2GB RAM would suit me perfectly.
If you do take different orders and the above is possible how much would that be?

kraze, the "burst" RAM tells us that he's looking at a very different class of VPS at the other host. Anything with "burst" RAM is not going to be Xen-based and is going to have significantly more clients sharing a box. If the other host forces him to use a specific OS, they're most likely using OpenVZ. Their low price stems from the fact that so many customers are put onto a single machine and so much RAM is swapped to disk; the lower the price, generally, the more customers and RAM-swappage you'll see. Both of these lead to low and unpredictable performance, which is why we use dedicated cores and no virtual RAM at all here. We talk a bit more about this topic here: viewtopic.php?f=47&t=4940.

ITZ_MOH, you should be able to construct a 1-core package with 2 GB of RAM through our order page, but it might be a better deal to just get the 2-core one. It might seem strange, but our 2-core VDS product would be much faster than any dedicated machine that you can find with one or two cores (as any such machine would be ridiculously old and slow).

They are using OpenVZ yes, but the fact remains... it could be really good hardware.
Even with one core and 2GB RAM the price is something I wouldn't go for.

Yes the dedicated could be an older version of what you are using but I would rather have one to myself then a VPS for $40/mo

We'll be here whenever you'd like to give a VDS a try. I'm serious when I say that a VDS here really would be much faster than a dedicated server at the same price point -- and it's not a small difference . With game servers, and especially with an intense game like Garrysmod, the difference would be stark.

One reason we use the term "VDS" instead of "VPS" is that we want to convey that these are very similar to dedicated machines and not a traditional VPS like an OpenVZ one. Part of our high performance stems from having dedicated HT CPU cores in addition to dedicated RAM, which also severely restricts the number of customers per machine. In the post I linked previously, I describe how this relates to the price.

^ yep and with Xen NFo is not overselling resources like some of the users do on OpenVz...reason why they offer burst ram in the first place.

The NFo servers are extremely fast and the hardware is always up to date.

I used OpenVZ before but the host I use to be with was overselling that thing like no tomorrow.
I moved my website to a Xen server (different company) and they only load 4 servers per machine and the difference for me has been day and night.
