Have you ever thought about implementing bitcoin?

If you don't know what bitcoin is, check out the video on this page: http://www.weusecoins.com/

It'd be good because...
No chargebacks
Very low transaction fees (Currently free for most transactions)
Can be instantly converted into USD via a service like bit-pay
Paypal sucks
You can list your company on the Bitcoin trade page, free advertising!
Your account cannot be frozen
Completely free to accept bitcoins

:D

If significant demand appears among customers for bitcoin support, we will look into adding it. However, it would likely come after Google and Amazon payment support, and I have serious reservations about the idea, as the anonymous nature of bitcoins would not be a benefit; being one of very few hosters to support it would paint a bullseye on our back for spammers, scammers, and anyone who we want to stay banned.

By all means, you should avoid Paypal.

I would personally love to see Google and Amazon payment support.

Seems sensible, you will indeed see more revenue on Google and Amazon.

With regards to the anonymous nature. Bitcoin users are in no position to be able to scam you (ie fraudulently obtain services) as, once the money is in your wallet, they can't take it back. There is no way to reverse a bitcoin transaction once it is confirmed. It's certainly more safe than credit cards and paypal, which can both have chargebacks.

If your talking about people signing up anonymously and using the servers for nefarious things, I can see the concern, that said, it's not that difficult to be anonymous using other currencies either, prepaid credit cards, signing up for paypal with false information, or plain old identity theft are just a few ways of doing it. If it became an issue, I'd suggest requiring some form of identity validation. :)

Yes, the concern I gave was about scammers, spammers, and ban evaders taking advantage of the easy and anonymous nature of bitcoins. While it is true that there are other methods of renting servers pseudo-anonymously, bitcoin should be far easier and less trackable.

Thought I'd bump this and see if the idea has made any progress. Maybe you could implement the idea for those of us with a credit card already linked?

What John said above still applies, In all honesty it is unlikely to get added. When we start adding new payments types we'll most likely start with Google and Amazon checkout.

Has Google ever changed and start allowing Canadian payments?
Don't know why they would restrict a great portion of the North American market.
