Knowing how a website can lag out because of crawlers, if steps are not taken to block the bad spiders and bots, can a gameserver also have the same issues?

Do spiders and crawlers hit gameservers to which can lead to lag?

I do not know this to be factual, but I imagine that crawlers only look on port 80, so if it's not open, they skip it.

ok - thought it might be possible that it could be similar to a website.

3rd party querying services can interrogate the server and ask it for information about its state, and excessive queries of this kind could be used as an attack to cause performance problems for a server. I have not seen this happen unintentionally.

I've had issues with spiders and crawlers slowing down my website, but that's because port 80 is open for my website.

I haven't seen spiders or crawlers slowing down game servers.
Only DDOS attacks for game servers have been an issue in the past for me.
