Alright, i've set up a domain for my website/server so far and one of my mods, who apparently knows html, is messing around with it atm. The problem is it's coming along a little slow and when he's done it's just going to be black text on a white background. Is there an easier way to do this? What do i need to learn to make the website look better, or is there some sort of editor I can use?

Instead of building a site from scratch, I would recommend beginning with a forum or CMS, which you can then customize. Wordpress would be an easy start, if you'd like a CMS, as it is very customizable and many free themes are available; phpBB would be an easy start if you are looking for a forum. Most communities are based around their forum.
