Ubuntu upgrade

Post by Spifft »

Anyone here had any luck upgrading Ubuntu 10.10 to 11.04?

No matter the method, I get undesired results.

From a fresh install

First tried do-release-upgrade. This did not go over well.

Then tried apt-get update/upgrade first before do-release-upgrade

Then I tried apt-get update && apt-get upgrade followed by distupgrade.
Worked once but I had to start over and now it gives me errors at the end.

Something like "ubuntu upgrade bios or use force_addr"

It seems I just can't get 11.04 to ever work fully. Has anyone else here had any luck?

The only way that I've heard of anyone successfully running a 11.xx release is by using an old 10.xx kernel with it, post-upgrade. This is because Ubuntu no longer properly supports Xen HVM -- despite the fact that the distribution it is based on (Debian) does still support it.

Yes, Ubuntu properly supports bare hardware platforms.
