This is something that I will try to find time to look into in the near future. But, I wouldn't really recommend running the beta anyway :).

In terms of code, it isn't really a beta (yet).

Valve has changed some stats and effects on the weapons for community testing and feedback. The code base is really the normal TF2 engine. So from an operational standpoint, it should be pretty stable.

However, it's possible that Valve will tweak the engine for performance in the future which may make it less stable.

You can see by the change log in the blog that it is mostly weapon parameter changes and a new map. http://www.tf2.com/post.php?id=4721&p=1

You might consider making the install available on a managed server but with the caveat that it will not be managed in the traditional sense (no nightly restarts, no automatic updates (but we need a way to request an update) etc).

I'm running this on my VPS. Seem's to be running great. Don't seem to be using much resources either. But uses about 10-20GB a day if I'm right, but of course my server is almost full 24/7, though there are some times when it's dead.

I'm also running the server at 1,000 FPS and seems pretty stable.

You can check out the server here:

It would be kinda pointless for him to setup a managed TF2 beta server when beta only last for 1-2 months at most.

My understanding was that the TF2 beta isn't a beta in the traditional sense. It's more of a playground for Valve to test ongoing changes and as such I believe it will be around longer than 2 months.

Supporting the beta is still something that I will look into. It's not as simple as adding a regular new mod, unfortunately, because Valve requires that it be run as a completely separate install of the game, and because it will require more maintenance/tending due to frequent updates.

Beta only updated like one or twice since it's release.

They haven't been using it as much of a beta so far, but Valve's goal was to frequently test things with it.

If they end up not testing much with it, it will lose relevance with players, so that would actually be a strike against supporting it :|.

But, multiple players did report that the game in-fact runs better. The game has always ran good for me though.

Keep in mind though, a lot of mods don't work with the new beta server, so it's best if you install them one by one and test them out, since some of them tend to crash the server.
