OS reload with dedicated

Post by Detox »

Are you able to reload and switch OS on dedicated servers like you can on a VPS? I have seen other providers let you have this feature without having to replace the disk.

i am almost positive this is not a feature with nfo. the administration of the server is left to you (including os, configuration, etc) :(. maybe something could be setup though :D

The OS on a dedicated server can't be switched on the fly by the user like on a VDS, no. In some cases, we can do a time-intensive remote reinstall, and in others we have to ship a new hard drive.

I don't know of a dedicated server that provides automatic remote installs, but it's theoretically possible through PXE. I looked into it here and it was far too complicated and expensive to implement at our scale.
