This isn't a "flame" per say but it's something you guys should strongly look in to. I had a server at the Denver location and figured it would give about the best ping for everyone in the country because it's the most central server location in the U.S. I live in Las Vegas which is oh about 600 miles from Denver and got 80 ping. Everyone else had pretty high ping as well and pretty poor registration.

I did a request for a location change (which was done surprisingly fast, thank you) to Dallas which is much farther and my ping dropped to 50. That's 400 miles farther from me and it gave 30 ping less. Not only that but everyone's ping in the U.S dropped about the same amount with much better registration. The Dallas location gives many people around 50 ping (which is amazingly low considering I'm 1,000 miles away) and is obviously the best location for those who plan to service people nation wide.

I'd look your connections and InterNAP situation for the Denver servers or something because something seems wrong. Other than probably those who live very close to Denver it gives poor performance for those who live elsewhere. I asked peoples location and it ranged from Michigan to Maryland to Texas and basically people from all over the country were getting bad performance. My last server from here was in Denver and gave 70 ping as well and I had no idea I'd get 50 ping in Dallas. Something to look into to better server your customers ;).

We've looked at our Denver connection since before we opened it and it's about as good as it can be. The fact is, most NSPs consider Denver a peripheral location and route only indirectly to it, and they lack peering with other backbones there. This means high latencies for just about everyone who doesn't live in the area, and there's not a whole lot we can do about it, although sometimes we can have InterNAP change the outbound route to a customer to improve his latency.

Dallas is a much larger metropolitan area and all major NSPs use it as a hub and peer there. This makes it a much better location for players located around the nation, as you've seen.

I'd suggest mentioning that somehwere in your server info to better server your customers. This is probably the most upfront and honest server company I've seen so I see no reason not to let people know that.

I agree with him too...if Denver location lacks of peering with other backbones..then id suggest ya can either remove that location or lower the price for that location...

We still have a demand for Denver because of customers in the Denver area, so we will keep it.

We price our servers based on actual cost to us, since we believe that is the most fair way. All pure InterNAP locations cost us the same amount to operate; that's why Denver and Dallas, for instance, cost the same on the page.

As always, we highly recommend to all potential customers that they have their players test a server at each location they are considering to get a feel for which one is best in their case. And server moves are free, so if a renter would prefer to start up a server and move it around in its free trial period, that's perfectly fine too.

I don't want to bump an old post, but Denver was always good for me. I live in Chicago, and my former team lived in Cali. All of us pinged about 30-40 ish. This was about 1-2 months back from right now, but i thought Denver was always good.
