I've watched with interest that BF3 will now have servers for consoles which appears to be a first. While this isn't something I'm interested in, it is a recognition of the value of having gaming servers versus P2P matching.

Just curious, is this something DICE is providing themselves, or are they using partners like NFO to provide these console servers?

We have not been provided any information on how the console servers are being operated, and we have not been invited to participate. I honestly do not know how they're handling it.

It seems like they are handled internally within EA/Dice through the PS Network, most likely setup similarly to the way the BF3 servers are setup through a hosting provider, except you can only have 32 players, but I think that will change soon as semi-dedicated servers, thats what they are, you can't get a box for less than $100 a month capable of hosting BF3, will be more reliable and more powerful in order to handle 64 players.

You can rent in 1 day, 7 day, 30 day, or 90 day intervals.

They might have another company who is an RSP but only provides servers for console.

Certain RSPs have providing their console servers for years and I would assume that they just continued with a no-bid contract through the same two companies. But, I do not know, as they have not discussed it.
