Tickrate in CS:S

Post by Edge100x »

For those of you who have an accelerated CS:S server and wish to raise the tickrate, we have added an option for this to the Server control page in the control panel.

Raising the tickrate can result in smoother gameplay. However, it should be noted that it can also cause game glitches. For instance:

* Certain weapons may fire faster
* Players may move faster
* Some doors may not work properly

I've converted this to a drop-down with more choices. Some people have noticed problems at a tickrate of 100 but not at lower values such as 66, and this addresses that.

I personally use 66. This seems to be a good balance.

We highly recommend against using 100 on any server over 16 or 20 players. For small, private match and scrim servers, 100 works OK.

I am not currently renting from NFO but planning to in a month or so (once my other host subscription expires) When i rent for my clan, the public server i am planning on getting will be a 20man pub. Should i expect any glitchs with 100tick running on it?? i am also might go with level 2 ping accelerator instead of level 1, but i am un-decided for the level 2 as of yet.

There can be some glitches with 100 tickrate on some custom maps, other than that the tickrate and netcode has been updated and improved by VALVe several times since this news topic was posted about a year ago. Some people like to run 66 as its more optimal for a large pub and you still get the increased update benefit. Think of it like a compromise between default 33 and 100. We give you a couple options to choose from: 50, 66, 85 and 100.

Ic, i wont really be running to much customs, well by default, i may have some that can be voted for, for my clans practicing purposes such as aim_map. But other then that, i am simply planning on using CAL maps for default map cycling, thanks for your help.
