How do I fix weird characters showing up when using PuTTY?

Weird characters such as 'â' can show up if you aren't using the correct encoding in ssh.
You can correct this by firing up PuTTY, going to Translation and changing the Remote Character Set to UTF-8. That will fix the weird 'â' that show up.
Then, htop looks like this:
