I was wondering if you were planning on offering Windows 2012 as a server option. Microsoft and Amazon are already making it available.

The reason I ask is that it appears that 2012 is supposed to include some DirectX support that many people have been asking for here.

When it has been released, we will be looking into it. However, I don't know that it supports emulating GPUs. The thread there is unclear because it is discussing EC2 GPU nodes.

Thanks for the quick response.

Morphine, what features were you attempting to get out of 2012 with DirectX? I might be able to find the answer.

FYI: Server 2012 is available *today* for Volume License subscribers. (I presume NFO might be included somewhere in the mix.) Otherwise, General Availability is in September.

Thought I would bump this thread to see if there is an ETA on Server 2012?

@CPx4 - The primary thing I'm trying to do is find a VM solution that supports enough Direct X so that I can run Falcon BMS as a server. It requires some Direct X support to run the UI but I don't have enough of the details to say what exactly what is needed (it doesn't have a text dedicated server). I've been able to get it to work on VMware ESXi 5.0 using its emulated Direct 3D mode and most recently on an MS Azure VM using Server 2012. While both solutions work, they are priced for corporate purposes and not gamers. I have not been able to get it to work on any of the Xen based hypervisors.

Investigating the viability and licensing structure of Server 2012 is something I do plan to do in the near future, but I don't have a specific ETA.

Glad someone already asked.

I was about to post a thread. I am hoping to see Server 2012 by the end of the year. Figure its a good time to clean house before really getting things fired up.

I guess you can register online, and get your membership and freebies in a couple days.

Curious....

Is this on the radar screen near-term?

I'm probably going to be moving from my existing VDS to a dedicated box in the near future, and was wondering if this was going to be an option.

I'm fine with 2008r2, but would be kinda choked if I were to see 2012 become an option shortly after setting up a 2008r2 box.

I'd expect it to become an option in November, as long as it's compatible with Xen.
