I was wondering nfo should make a tutorial on how to optimize your dedicated server or vps (unmanaged) OS to the peak of it's performance.

This mostly comes down to optimizing the applications (such as via cvars, for game servers) on the VDS/dedi, so we'd need multiple guides. I'm swamped with work right now, but it's something that I will consider for the future.

If you have questions about tweaking a particular type of server, please don't hesitate to post them.

Just have a few questions

1. Let's say I get a windows 2k8 dedicated server is there any way to maximize it so it can reach up to 2000fps? Does your windows 2k8 game servers allow you to run up to 2000 fps with nfo's tweaks?

2. another question if the linux kernal can be optimized to reach 2k fps with special optimization can windows be able to aswell? even if you try everything you have.

3. last thing, when buying a windows dedicated 2k8 server are there any ways to maxmize it's ability by going through the kvm and disabled unknown or unused applications?

Windows can't reach 2000 FPS, and Orangebox games can only reach about 500 FPS on it. I'm not aware of any possible way to work around that.

As for tweaking the OS itself, you can disable any unused applications and background services to free up system resources, but performance will still be about the same if you are within your resource limits.

Orangebox games on Windows can only go up to 250fps after update.

That depends on the version of Windows you are using and other options. Before the changes, you could get up to about 1000 FPS on some versions of Windows with HPET enabled, but it isn't as stable as our Managed Linux install (with proprietery "FPS Locker") allows.
