I've been trying to find mention of this extra cost you said would be coming down but have yet to find it. I'm ready to order my dedicated server but I want to know what the extra cost is going to be before I pull the trigger.

Our current estimate is here: viewtopic.php?f=51&t=5705. I don't expect this to change by release.

To clarify - this only applies to VDS / Dedicated servers - not to per slot servers?

Does this only apply to Managed Dedicated servers or does it apply to both managed and un managed dedicated servers

This per-slot amount applies to managed VDSes and managed dedicated machines only. BF3 cannot be run on unmanaged VDSes or dedicated servers.

the 25 cents can start being expensive if you intend to run several multiple servers. But then again, it's cheaper than renting out individual servers.

I am still curious as to what the fee is for. In the FAQ it says:

"This fee will likely be about 25 cents per slot, although the number has not been finalized yet. We will be providing the exact number and, we hope, why this surcharge has to exist, when the game is closer to release."

Are we close enough to release to find out why this surcharge exists? I think clarity would help in understanding. Thanks.

Guessing EA is desperate for money.
Their stocks have been tanking apparently for quite a while.

They are so hard up for money, that they released Tigerwoods Online, that was so broken and glitchy, it should still be in the Alpha stages. We had 7 members who purchased memberships as well as another clan who also bought quite a few memberships, and all our guys got entire refunds and some got to keep the game membership free for the next year. The other clan also did the same thing.

They are putting out games that are trash lately, and the rumour is that they are putting a great deal of effort into making sure BF3 has a smooth launch, as it's needed to bring them back to good standards.

Pain, please, no further speculation on the reason for our fee here.

I don't think it will change for the release. I have not yet had a chance to integrate it into the page, which will be when it will be confirmed, but I don't expect it to change.

BF3 runs only on Windows 2008+ managed VDSes and managed dedicated servers.
