 Post subject: bad lag y

we rent a server for you guys and i have bad lag i did a tracert and its fine going to the server but it goes complety differnt back to me i have 9 hops goint to server and 20 hops coming back that =lag for me http://i491.photobucket.com/albums/rr27 ... 279/11.png

Hopcount doesn't correlate to lag -- most hops on the internet are actually hidden, thanks to tunneling, MPLS, and routers that are configured to not decrement the TTL.

From that trace, it looks like you are connecting to a NY server from CA, and you have a good ping considering the distance. To achieve lower latencies, I would recommend moving the server to one of other locations that is closer to you. San Jose would be ideal for you specifically.
