Private, Customer ONLY Forum?

This is used for general discussion that is not necessarily server-related.

Private, Customer ONLY Forum?

Post by Cerious101 »

Could we please get a Private, Customer Only Forum?

With the events of late I think it's needed more then ever. At this point I can not discuss certain subjects here on these forums with my fellow server operators, period.
I think those that do are setting them selves up for more problems at the very least.

If I sound a bit vague on my reasons, it's because I don't feed the trolls if I can help it and really the reasons are too numerous to mention in short.

So how about it? Can we have a "Private, Customer Only Forum"? Please.

That's an interesting idea and I could see it being useful but it would be an extremely high maintenance forum. We'd have to manually whitelist customers per request and removed cancelled customers.

The only feasible way I could see doing this would be to only allow customers who have been with us for X amount of time or ones who have X amount of post on the forums.

Thank you for taking the time to consider it.

I understand exactly what you mean, I knew when I asked that there would some logistical hurdles. But I think the benefit to us and well as to you, would way out way the negatives.

Couple of ideas,
a.Limit it to 2 member's per GSP account, available upon request with a 24-72 hr. wait time for processing. That way it could be done at a scheduled time and handled more rapidly. Even if you waited to removed them till a regular interval, a strong TOS and a Moderator with "Temp Banning" permissions would do the trick if a recently departing customer had issues, etc.

b.Request/assign a member of the forums to Moderate it and possibly user accounts(?). I don't know if the last one would work here, it won't on vbulletin without giving the ability to give them self total access, so I completely understand if that won't work. ( just spit ballin')

c. Set a strong TOS in that area for "Professional, civil and constructive" post only! No flaming Game Companies, GSP's or fellow members. Maybe a two strikes rule.

Thanks for your time.

I'll mention it and see what the general outcome of this idea is. We work directly on a demand basis, so if there is little demand it's likely going to get pushed back, while if there is higher demand it will be pushed up on the to-do list.

Sounds good to me!

I would think John could cook something up to automate the process.

I love helping NFO customers, and most of these posts anyway are from customers.

The main con to a "private" customer-only forum is that it would not truly be private, and the illusion of privacy would be confusing to some and lead to information being posted that shouldn't be. That is, people could (and would) easily take text posted there and repost it elsewhere.

GCN- Gaming Community Network has a private section for server admins/owners to discuss issues openly.

GCN consists of leaders from clans/communities. Take a look and if you are interested, we can give you access to this forum. As you can see by the following list, we already have a lot of NFO customers who are GCN members.

I'll copy/paste what I wrote in the battlelog forum about us

http://battlelog.battlefield.com/bf4/fo ... 998667526/
The Gaming Community Network (GCN) brings together committed, upstanding gaming communities, clans, streamers, youtubers, and competitive gamers to provide mutual support and facilitate collaboration on shared initiatives.

GCN goals:

To create a focal point for Gaming Community Leaders and Admins to air their concerns and ideas.
To take battlefield to the next level of community involvement.
To open up a direct line of communication with the developers of dice and to voice the concerns of players and server owners alike.
To engage with DICE/EA in constructive dialogue regarding our concerns.
To facilitate cross community events, ladders, and tournaments on a scale Battlefield has never seen.

How are GCN members influencing BF games?

- For BF3, we hosted well over a million unique player IDs between our communities in just the last year.
- We host over 15,000 player slots on just our Battlefield servers.
- Paid more than $300,000 in server rental fees over 2 years just for BF3.
- Gave away tens of thousands of dollars in gaming merchandise, including copies of games, graphics cards, and peripherals to members of our communities.

Who is currently GCN?

That is true, but there would be some lag time, and really it's not much of a problem on other "private" forums such as ppban's. And really "Private" may be a misnomer, "limited" might be a better descriptive.

I've been meaning to ask for this for sometime, just haven't gotten too it. With the issues of late I found myself more motivated.
There are so many positives ( in my mind) that I just don't focus on the negatives much. Really most of the negatives are just a sign of the times and can't really be helped.

I've been a member of the HardOCP.com Forums for sometime, they asked for a $10 one time registration fee to see the "Private" sections to quell the trolling, grieffing, and other wise undesirable behavior. That was almost a decade ago when they did that, it work wonders.
I was glad to do it there I'd be glad to do it here, maybe refund it on the backside or something in this case. (once again, just spit ballin')

fantasygirl- Thanks for the information, but that's not what I'm asking for, I'm asking about a Forum here for NFO customers.

I understand what you are asking, I'm just saying there is a private section for admins from various clans/communities with different providers- several who are with NFO - to discuss issues that are currently going on..

This current Ddos situation is one of them. I know you want NFO to provide one but in case they cannot, I just wanted to inform you of a place that does exist where things could be openly discussed among admins in private :)
