Re: DOS attack traffic captured, now what?

yes its funny, with some help we figured out exactly who it is...whats funny is they are using their own game server space to attack my server...in hopes i guess of filling his own server.

He has two rented game servers so i have blocked both IP's: 46.163.66.221 and 178.170.111.2

Re: DOS attack traffic captured, now what?

Welll....after closer inspection this was a different attacker than I thought it actually came from another server box in Paris, France....so I am going to try the filter settings kraze posted (below)...thanks again! 1. (Block) (Any) inbound packet 2. From (This Remote IP) (178.170.111.22) 3. To (An...

Re: DOS attack traffic captured, now what?

Yup, thanks guys. I know this is coming from a basic cable connection which can refresh to a new dynamic IP from the modem admin panel....so I'm using the "178.170.*.*" to block the IP mask instead because even after new dynamic IP is given it is still within this range. Also its not the m...

Re: DOS attack traffic captured, now what?

Ok, I'm pretty sure they can refresh their IP but usually it is 178.170 for the first two entries so this is the rule I'm using for now... ******************************* black any inbound packet this remote ip: 178.170.*.* any of your IPs any length any string ******************************* Please...

Help me help my server admin friends please!

So...I am thoroughly enjoying the VDS server for my own purposes of hosting the old game FarCry, also developing some server admin tools...inevitably it puts me and my few server admin freinds at odds with the remaining "punks" of FC multiplayer. Any admin of older games most likely knows ...

Re: FarCry Windows Dedicated + Windows 2003 x64 *ISSUE*

Is there any particular reason why Windows Server 2003 x86 is "not recommended" in the control panel?

I want to give a try just for test sake, and was wondering this...

Re: FarCry Windows Dedicated + Windows 2003 x64 *ISSUE*

The port is probably different in your case as I used the default supplied. The port49001 would also be different. In L4D2, the normal file used is server.cfg, but the installer creates port27015.cfg. Allowing the use of multiple servers with the same ip but different ports. Appreciate eyeballs on ...

Re: FarCry Windows Dedicated + Windows 2003 x64 *ISSUE*

It's odd that it wouldn't run as an administrator to begin with. Were you logged in as a different user? Not that I am aware of. I used the login method given in the control panel; i have not editied users or security/permissions. FarCry came out just before Vista and the upgraded security that cam...

Re: FarCry Windows Dedicated + Windows 2003 x64 *ISSUE*

Wasn't able to get it to show me errors but it will run succesfully like this... > Right Click > Run As > Administrator (Enter Password) Server is up and running, joinable and smooth with a few players. Anyone have any good resource for creating .bat or .cmd file that will launch this program as &qu...

FarCry Windows Dedicated + Windows 2003 x64 *ISSUE*

(old game alert) I still really like FarCry (2004) original and have run server(s) for FC the last 6+ years, as well as make some really nice server-side mods for it...I really want to get all my FC servers on an NFO VDS for multiple reasons like security, more control, performance etc... ...first i...
