+ Frequently Asked Questions - General Unreal Tournament 2003/2004

Q: How do I log in to the Unreal Tournament 2003 web administration interface (that's included with the game)?
A: Open up your web browser and navigate to http://yourserver.nuclearfallout.net:7777 (where "yourserver" is your server login name). The default login is Admin/Admin. Make sure that you change the password the first time you log in! To change the password, click "Admins & Groups" and then click "Your Account". Change the password in the blank and click "Accept".

Q: How do I change the name of my server, or the MOTD?
A: This can be done in the Unreal Tournament 2003 web administration interface. Click "Defaults" and then click "Server" to get to the appropriate page. You can also change them in UT2003.ini (you can change any of the settings from the administration interface in UT2003.ini -- all the web interface does is edit that file).

Q: How do I give others access to the administration of my server?
A: This can be done in the Unreal Tournament 2003 web administration interface, under "Admins & Groups". You can also edit the XAdmin.ini configuration file to change the admin access list.

Q: How do I change the mapcycle?
A: Edit UT2003.ini, and look for sections such as the following:

[XInterface.MapListDeathMatch]
MapNum=0
Maps=DM-Antalus
Maps=DM-Asbestos
Maps=DM-Curse3
Maps=DM-Inferno
Maps=DM-Compressed
Maps=DM-Phobos2
Maps=DM-Plunge
Maps=DM-TokaraForest

To change the cycle, simply add or remove the appropriate Maps= line(s) under the game type you use and restart your server.

Q: How do I change which map the server starts with?
A: You must edit UT2003.ini. Under the [URL] section at the top of the file, there is a line that looks like the following:

LocalMap=DM-Antalus?game=XGame.XDeathmatch?AccessControl=XAdmin.AccessControlIni?maxplayers=12

To change the default map, edit the mapname immediately following the equals sign, and set the corresponding game type after "game=".

Do NOT change the maxplayers setting without a direction from us.

Q: How do I change which mutators run on the server by default?
A: You must edit UT2003.ini. Under the [URL] section at the top of the file, there is a line that looks like the following:

LocalMap=DM-Antalus?game=XGame.XDeathmatch?AccessControl=XAdmin.AccessControlIni?maxplayers=12

To add or change mutators, add a section to the end of the line (after the maxplayers entry) that looks like this:

?Mutator=UnrealGame.MutBigHead,XGame.MutInstaGib

Separate each mutator by a comma. The default possible mutators are:

Arena - XWeapons.MutArena
Big Head - UnrealGame.MutBigHead
Float-Away Corpses - XGame.MutHeliumCorpses
InstaGib - XGame.MutInstaGib
Zoom InstaGib - XGame.ZoomInstaGib
LowGrav - UnrealGame.MutLowGrav
No Adrenaline - XGame.MutNoAdrenaline
No Super Weapons - XWeapons.MutNoSuperWeapon
Quad Jump - XGame.MutQuadJump
AutoHealing - XGame.MutRegen
Slow Motion Deaths - XGame.MutSlomoDeath
Species Specific Stats - XGame.MutSpeciesStats
Vampire - XGame.MutVampire

Q: How do I set per-map mutators, or per-map settings in general?
A: Edit UT2003.ini, and find the map list sections as mentioned in "Q: How do I change the mapcycle?" above. For the map that you want to change, simply add the options you want to the end of the line, just as you would for the default map under [URL] (from "Q: How do I change which mutators run on the server by default?"). For instance, you might change this line:

Maps=DM-Antalus

To be:

Maps=DM-Antalus?mutator=XGame.MutSlomoDeath,unrealGame.MutLowGrav

The mutators will stay on until they are explicitly removed by settings for a later map. To remove all mutators when a particular map appears, make its Maps line look like this:

Maps=DM-Antalus?mutator=

Q: How do I run multiple game types with a single server?
A: You will need to edit UT2003.ini, and find the map list sections as mentioned in "Q: How do I change the mapcycle?" above. At the bottom of one of these sections, you can change the line to look like the following:

Maps=CTF-Citadel?game=XGame.xCTFGame

That would make it so when the last map of the section comes up, it would change the game type to CTF and change the map to CTF-Citadel.

Other game types include XGame.xBombingRun and XGame.xDeathMatch. The default game type is XGame.xDeathMatch, and the default map is DM-Antalus, so you will most likely need to edit the [XInterface.MapListDeathMatch] section first (unless you changed them).

Q: What maps are included with a stock UT2k3 server?
A: These maps are included by default with every server.

BR-Anubis
BR-Bifrost
BR-Disclosure
BR-IceFields
BR-Skyline
BR-Slaughterhouse
BR-TwinTombs

Q: How do I set up redirection on my server so maps download faster?
A: The www.unrealadmin.org site presents a decent description of how to do that: UT2k4 or UT2k3. You can use your free webspace with us for the "fast webserver" that it requires.
