+ Frequently Asked Questions - FTP
Q: If I don't want to use FTP, how do I change server settings and upload files?
A: You can use your control panel to upload, edit, delete, or rename .cfg, .txt, and .ini files.
Q: So what is the point of using FTP?
A: You need FTP to upload maps or work with any files outside your mod's base directory (for instance, with Half-Life servers, you need FTP to add admin mod plugins not included in the default install).
Q: How do I get to my FTP?
A: Open up the control panel, and click the File Manager tab. There is a link to your FTP there.
Q: Where do I put the maps?
A: With Half-Life servers, put the .bsp and .txt files in the maps directory, and place the .wad files in the root directory of the FTP; any other files go in the directory tree the way they come in the map distribution. With UT2k3 servers, put the .ut2 files in the maps directory, and any other files the way they come in the map distribution.
Q: Do I have a limit on how many maps I can upload or how much space I can use?
A: Yes. You are required to keep your uploaded maps to under 2GB.
Q: Why can't I delete or change most of the files on my server when viewing it through FTP?
A: Most of your server files (including the maps) are hardlinked to a base server directory, as they are for our other servers on your machine. Because the files are not in different physical places on the drive, the RAM on the machine only needs to cache the base files, and levels load much more quickly than if each server had its own full install. Unfortunately, we can't allow you to edit the hardlinked files -- if we did, then a renter could change the original copy of the file and cause other servers on the machine to behave strangely. To change or delete a file in the FTP, you will have to use the File unlock tool on the "Server control" page of your control panel. This tool can unlock or delete a single file or an entire list of files.
Q: I want to edit or replace a file that I know is there but can't see. How can I do that?
A: All files should be visible through the FTP. If you think there is a file there that you can't change, please contact us.
Q: Why don't I have access to liblist.gam?
A: We restrict access to liblist.gam because changing it can only hurt you. If you need to turn on or off secure mode, that option is available in the control panel under Control.
Q: Some configuration files (cal.cfg, ogl.cfg, etc) came in my server directory. Are they up to date?
A: These files are provided as examples only; they are somewhat old, and are not meant to be used in actual league situations. You should replace them with the latest valid versions before you participate in a clan match.
Q: I'm in the FTP, but I don't see this control panel you speak of. Where is it?
A: The control panel is completely separate from the FTP. It is available from the link in the menu at the top of your screen.
